Norman "Mick" McGinnis Obituary

Norman “Mick” Michael McGinnis, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, May 14, 2021 at age 77 in Anaconda, MT.

Mick was born and raised in Anaconda to William and Esther McGinnis.  During his high school years, he was very proud to work “the Ranch” in Madison Valley during summers, including the 1959 earthquake that created Quake Lake. He very proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam war in France. Many of his family and friends heard many “war” stories. He married and had four children. Terry McGinnis (John Skowronek), Kelly Coulter (Kent Coulter), Sandy Smallwood (Eric Smallwood) and Billy McGinnis. He was a proud Member of the Jaycees including his 1976-77 service as Montana chapter president and more proudly as National Chaplin. With his brief career as a barber, he gave many nephews and grandchildren their first haircut. He spent many years as a passionate successful salesman as anybody who met him, fell in love with him.

Mick’s true passion was fishing. As an avid fly fisherman, he passed this passion on to his children, grandchildren and many nephews and great nephews. Every summer was filled with family trips to Georgetown lake and the Big Hole river and brought much respect from anyone blessed enough to see him cast. His vivid imagination kept the kids entertained with Moss Monster and Bunny Bunny stories.

After living in Spokane, Washington, he eagerly moved back to Anaconda in 2013, the town and people he loved and served. He immediately joined the Elks Lodge making many new friends and reconnecting with old friends. Mick had numerous trips to “The Ranch” with his dear friends Al and Mary Schwartz and his brother Jim. He looked forward to every trip and was always anticipating the next one.  He also had many golfing buddies in Anaconda and always strived for a better swing.

Mick was a passionate lover of life and lived it to its fullest. Being a great storyteller, we never lacked good entertainment and laughter at any family or friend gathering. His love of children was unsurpassed as everybody loved Uncle Mick and Grandpa Mick. He is survived by his children, his siblings Jim McGinnis (Marilyn), Kathleen Campbell, Dick McGinnis (Zina), and Marsha Sager (Ron). His Grandchildren Sydney Lloyd, Christian Coulter (Sheyla), Shelby Coulter, Gabriel Held, Isaac Smallwood, Amber Smallwood and Jaden Cramer. His Great Grandson and namesake, Norman Hernandez. Many nieces and nephews including Jody Seibel, Amy Welsh, Kassie Campbell, Scott Sager, Nikole Jansen, Erin McGinnis, Tony McGinnis, Joe McGinnis, Matt McGinnis and many loved great nieces and nephews. I think we all know which one was his favorite.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Esther, his brother-in-law Dick Campbell and nephew Rocky Seibel.
