Nancy Hebnes Obituary

Nancy Aileen Hebnes, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 12, 2023, at the Granite County Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1937, in Durango, Colorado to William Allen and Bertha “Peggy” Ralston. She joined her older brother Bill, and later her sister Judy would join them. They lived in New Mexico, Seattle, and Wyoming before they settled in at the Piquette Creek Ranch in the West Fork of the Bitterroot. Here she attended and graduated from Darby High School.

After graduation, she attended Montana Western in Dillon. It was there in the cafeteria that she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Hebnes. They were married on November 17, 1956, when Jim was home on leave from the Army. They spent a wonderful 60 years together. In the early years of their marriage, they lived in Reedpoint, Montana where Jim taught school. It was here, they welcomed their daughter Marie in 1959 and their son Bob in 1961.

In 1962, the family moved to Philipsburg, Montana. Nancy’s faith was extremely important to her, and she became very involved in the Philipsburg Community Church.  She taught Sunday School, was involved with the Christian Women’s Club and After 5 for many years. She also volunteered at H&R Thrift Store and the Senior Citizen’s.

Nancy found joy in making some of the best cinnamon rolls, raisin puff cookies and dinner rolls a person could eat. She enjoyed travelling and exploring new places with Jim, even though she most likely had to convince him to go.  Every year, she and Marie would take a trip to Spokane to shop and eat. They both looked forward to this trip very much so.

Nancy was blessed with two grandchildren, James and Krista, that she loved to spoil. She made sure she always had time to watch their sports or school programs. She always enjoyed the family camping trips or when the grandkids would come and stay for their Christmas break.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents, brother Bill and daughter Marie. She is survived by her son Bob and wife Nina, Missoula, Grandson James and wife Nicole and Great Grandson J.J. of Lolo, Granddaughter Krista Hebnes and Justin Meyers, Arlee. She is also survived by her sister Judy Lemmer, son in law Tim Chute, brothers-in-law Ted Hebnes, John and Fran Hebnes, sister-in-law Ardis Ralston.
