Mary Lockyer Obituary

Mary Lockyer, 64, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.

Mary was born June 24, 1948 in Portland, OR to Fred Blake and Ruth (Carlson) Blake. She was the fourth of five children in the family.

Mary graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1966. After high school, Mary attended Ricks College in Rexburg, ID to study nursing.

In 1968, Mary married and had two children, Jeff and Apryle. They later divorced and Mary moved to Lima, MT with her children.

Mary met Robert "Bud" Lockyer in Lima. They married on December 20, 1974. Bud adopted Jeff and Apryle, and in 1976, Mary gave birth to their youngest daughter, Amy. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Once her family was complete, Mary decided to return to college to pursue a degree in education. She graduated from Western Montana College in 1981.

Mary taught at Philipsburg for 30 years; teaching K-12 music for 20 years and 7-12 English for 10 years before retiring in May of 2012. Mary was a passionate and dedicated educator.

Mary was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in Primary, Relief Society, and conducting the music.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her oldest brother Jim Blake.

Mary is survived by her children, Jeff, of Boise, ID, Apryle (Brian) Schmidt, of Fountain, CO, and Amy (Bruno) Pango, of Las Vegas, NV, as well as her grandchildren, Robby, Katie, Elyce, and Anthony. She is also survived by her siblings, Jean (Evan) Huntsman, Lewis (Betty) Blake, and Wayne (Patti) Blake.
