Jean Mills Obituary

Jean Mills, 92, Anaconda, passed away on June 20, 2013 at Granite County Medical Center, 17 day after suffering a broken hip.

Jean was born in Molt, Montana on May 30, 1921 to Lee and Jennie Duncan. She graduated from Anaconda High School in 1939 and attended business college in Butte.

She married Jim Mills on March 22, 1944 in the Anaconda Methodist Church and they enjoyed a very active life together until his death in March of 1999.

Jean worked at the Anaconda Credit Bureau from 1940 to 1974, and upon her retirement from that position, she was employed at Discovery Ski Area in the Ski School. In her capacity as a Certified Ski Instructor, she taught thousands of young people (and some not so young) how to ski; a sport she enjoyed since strapping on her first skis in 1937. She skied until 2009.

She was a member of the U.S. Ski Instructors Association, the Soroptimist Club, P.E.O., and the United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful yard.

Jean is survived by her nephew Gunnar and wife Charlene Johnson; grand-nephew Rick Johnson, his sons Allen and Spencer Johnson of Anaconda, grand-niece Susan and Tim Lessmeier and their daughters Ashley and Kelli Lessmeier of Spokane; niece Carlene Johnson of Missoula, and her children, Greg, Kirk, Mark and Kim and their families; and a cousin, Marian Geil of Anaconda.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, parents, sister Eunice Johnson, brother-in-law Charles G. Johnson, nephew "Chuck" Johnson, and cousin Phil Geil.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in the Anaconda United Methodist Church. Interment will be next to her husband Jim at New Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to United Methodist Church, Corner of 3rd and Oak, Anaconda, MT 59711, Discovery Ski School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 221, Anaconda, MT 59711, or donor's choice.
