Donald Schroeder Obituary

DONALD C. SCHROEDER                                                                                      1936-2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Don Schroeder announce his passing at the age of 85. Born in 1936, in Bismarck, North Dakota, Don grew up wild and free on the Dakota plains. He worked in the ranching arena the majority of his life with a spattering of mining, welding and mechanics tossed in. In his later years he built himself a shop to keep busy repairing autos during those "golden years" he had heard so much about. Don loved animals, particularly horses and dogs, and those creatures adored him. He was a horse shoer for many years and trained not a few cattle dogs in his time. It was rare to see him without a dog or two as a sidekick wherever he went.

In 1955, Don married Diane Rice (Nonny) and they were blessed with five children. He raised his children with an appreciation of hard work and respect, his inherent love of the furry creatures of this world, and his sense of family. Ile remained in the P 'burg Valley till his death.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Henry Schroeder, son Dee Schroeder, sisters Betty Meschke, and Elsie Shelton, son-in-law Mark Metesh and infant grandson, Bradley Engle.

Survivors include his daughters Dareen (Jim) Byler, Danielle (Dale) Larsen, Daralee (David King) Schroeder and Doris Metesh, his brother Tom (Leilani) Schroeder, and sisters, Judy Wise and Jean Monaco. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Don donated his body to science and requested that his ashes be scattered in the valley he called home where I am certain we will hear his whisper, as he was so fond of saying. "I'll see ya in the spring"

A memorial service will be held on June 18, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Philipsburg High School.
