Donald Nyquist Obituary

Donald Herbert Nyquist of Anaconda passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014, in Philipsburg at the age of 63.
Donald was born August 29, 1951, in Anaconda to Donald and Carley Nyquist. Don grew up in the New Addition and enjoyed time outdoors hiking and fishing Warm Springs Creek. He also had a voracious appetite for knowledge, developing an expertise of nature, history and many other intellectual pursuits, especially climatology. He also loved sports, excelling at baseball as a youth and playing for the Copperhead Football Team. Don graduated from Anaconda High in 1969 and went on to attend the University of Montana, Eastern Montana College and earned a Bachelor's Degree from Montana Tech and Master's in Climatology from Mississippi State in 1989. Don worked as a Climatologist for MSE and later at the Bert Mooney Airport in Butte.
Don's passion for the weather resulted in being the foremost authority for climate in southwestern Montana. He observed for the National Weather Service many years, earning the John Campanius Award for his service. Don enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar and showing others the beauty of nature and science.
Don married Kim Eccleston in 1975 and they later divorced. He married Ritzi Aciego in 1994 and they later divorced.
Don is survived by his mother; Carley Nyquist of Anaconda, his daughters; Dusty (Nick) Mikalatos of Anaconda and Nitchi Aciego Pezon of Louisiana, grandsons; Trent, Brady and Cael Mikalatos of Anaconda, his brother; Dirk Nyquist of Missoula, nieces; Erica, Heidi, Frankie and Taylor, and nephew; Nate.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jamaica in 1976, father Donald in 1989, and by his brother Frank in 1994.
Celebration of Life Services for Don will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home with burial following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
