Virginia Francis Craig

Long time Philipsburg resident, Virginia Craig, passed away Friday, December 20th, 2019 at the Granite County Medical Center. Virginia Francis (Chewning) Craig was born in San Diego, California on January 20th, 1927, to Charles W. and Martha Chewning. Virginia an only child, married the love of her life James W. "Jimmie" Craig on February 28, 1947 in Yuma, Arizona. They lived in San Diego County while raising their sons, Richard (of San Diego) and Larry (of Philipsburg). Upon retiring from his career at the City of San Diego, Jim and Virginia moved to the Rumsey Valley to build their dream retirement home in February of 1976. In 1992, after Jim's passing, Virginia moved into town where she strengthened ties to close church friends and the community. She had many interests and talents including knitting afghans, quilting and Porcelain Doll making. Virginia loved cats and was never without one in her home. She also had a soft heart for nature and wildlife, enjoying rides in the country with her camera and feeding the squirrels and birds that gathered in her yard. Virginia's love of God, sense of humor and caring heart never left her. Virginia is survived by her sons, Richard and Larry, special daughter-in-law, Sue (Al) Petron (of Cannon Falls, MN) grandchildren Richie and Cory Craig (San Diego), Jamie (Becky) Craig (Nerstrand, MN) and Andy (Kate) of Manhattan, KS, eight great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Jan Craig, and many nieces and nephews and an abundance of long-time friends. She was predeceased by her parents and husband. Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home will oversee the Memorial Service for Virginia which will be held at the Granite County Museum, Philipsburg, on Sunday, January 5th, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. with the Reverend Steve Hoggatt officiating. Refreshments will be served following. The family has requested that in Lieu of Flowers, donations be made to the local animal shelter: Give Pets A Chance, PO Box 523, Philipsburg, MT 59858
