After a long battle with brain cancer, Tom Blaz died on October 16, 2017.
Tom was born in Anaconda on September 6, 1953 to Thomas V. and Doris E. (Gunderson) Blaz. He attended Bryan Grade School and graduated from Anaconda High School in 1972. During high school, he was a box boy at Safeway and at Eli's Den as a swamper.
Tom joined the Navy in 1973, and was stationed in San Diego on the USS Bagley. After his basic training, he returned to Anaconda and was engaged to his love, Debbie Collins. They were married on April 7, 1973 and made their home in San Diego. During this time, they welcomed their only child, Thomas Francis on October 26, 1975. Upon his discharge, the couple made their home in Anaconda.
Tom was employed at Montana State Prison until he became the Police Chief of Anaconda in 2000. After serving office, he returned to Montana State Prison as Emergency Preparedness Lieutenant; and later retired after 38 years.
Tom is survived by his mother Doris Blaz, daughter-in-law Ann and Ryan Campbell; grandchildren Thomas John and Nicole Terese, all of Anaconda, sisters Judy Bowman, Bremerton, WA, Margie Bock (Larry), Silverdale, WA, and Linda Forkan (Jerold); brothers David (Judy) and Terry (Janice) Blaz, all of Anaconda; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was preceded in death by his father Tom, his wife Debbie, his son Tom and his in-laws Frank and ZeZe Collins.
Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. There will be one hour of visitation prior to Mass.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
