Sibley H. Malee

On February 9, 2018 the Big Hole Valley and Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness was once again visited by Sibley (Sib) Holmes Malee. Sib was born January 17, 1931 in Anaconda, Montana to Dr. J.J. & Amelie (Holmes) Malee. He was the third of five children, Maiben (Doodie), John (Bud), Thomas (Ike) and Jackie. Sib was unique in that he and his twin brother, Ike, were born just minutes apart. Sib attended St. Paul's grade school, graduating from Anaconda Central in 1949 and later went on to attend Carrol College prior to entering the U.S Military (Army). One of his immense achievements was his assignment with the 379th Evacuation Hospital in Germany, where he was a surgical technician. Upon returning to Anaconda, Sib married his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Fink. They were blessed with three children, Sibley Holmes Jr, Mara Ann and John Joseph. Sib had a great entrepreneur spirit, owning several businesses in Anaconda, including the Why Not Gift Shoppe and Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home. Sib's greatest love was the outdoors whether it be hunting, fishing, or just driving the valley looking for Elk. (Sib also enjoyed many hunting trips to different areas including Alaska, Newfoundland, Russia, New Zealand and the Arctic). Many of these trips happened after the age of 70. When Sib wasn't driving the valley or having coffee with the "Crew" he would be found making knives which was one of his favorite past times. Sib is proceeded in death by his parents; Dr. J.J.& Amelie Malee, brothers Tom Ike & Bud, and sister; Maiben. Also, father and mother in-law Bill and Mary Fink. He is survived by his wife; Mary Lou, sister, Jackie Malee, brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Judy Fink, sons; Sibley, John (Mallory) and Daughter; Mara (Tom) Dunne. Grandchildren; Malea, Andrew, Owen and Clayton and his buddy, Tucker Dog. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at St. Peter's Church. The Malee family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Peters Restoration Fund, c/o Holy Family Church, 217 West Pennsylvania Street, Anaconda, MT 59711 or donor's choice. May the "Rain in Spain stay mainly in the plain" Dad!
