Rosemarie McLean

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rosemarie (Rinky) McLean, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, who departed this world on June 18, 2026, at the age of 74. 

Born on April 14, 1952, in the vibrant town of Anaconda, Montana, Rinky was a beacon of warmth, resilience, and compassion who touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey. Rinky was the beloved daughter of the late Rod and Rose McLean, who instilled in her a strong sense of family and community. Raised alongside her siblings, she shared an unbreakable bond with her family, which remained a cornerstone of her life. She made it a priority to attend as many graduations, weddings and other family gatherings as she could and was the life of the party at each of these events. Her sister, Jolene Froelich and her parents preceded her in death, and Rinky cherished their memories deeply. Rinky graduated from Anaconda High School in 1970 and went on to pursue an advanced degree in Education at Western Montana College in Dillon. Following this, she returned to her roots in Anaconda, where she served as both a teacher and librarian, inspiring countless students until her retirement at the age of 62.

Rinky was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in her early 20’s. She battled this disease for the remainder of her life with determination and tenacity, but she refused to let it define her. Although her illness presented many challenges along the way, she refused to let it rob her of her zest for life. Those of us who witnessed her determination and tenacity in fighting these challenges marveled at her ability to pick herself up and continue to live a full and active life. She received consistent, admirable medical support in fighting this disease from the Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at the University of Utah in Salt Lake, in coordination with the caring staff at Community Hospital in Anaconda. We will be forever grateful for the ongoing support they provided for her.

Rinky’s devotion extended beyond her professional life. A devout Catholic, she was an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, embodying the spirit of her Irish heritage. Her love for St. Patrick's Day was well-known, and she had the honor of serving as Grand Marshal of the parade for two consecutive years. Also, for many years she enjoyed being a member of Anaconda’s Irish dance group and was a member of the Irish Washerwomen’s Brigade. Her compassionate nature was evident in her volunteer work, particularly with the backpack program, which provided essential support to students in need. Through her efforts, she ensured that no child went without the necessary tools for learning, reflecting her unwavering commitment to education and kindness.

Rinky is survived by her beloved son, Brandon (Spando) McLean and her dog Shamrock Jameson McLean, who both brought her much support and comfort. Her siblings, James McLean and his wife Sharon, Dave McLean and his wife Mary Pat, and Leslie (McLean) Mullette and her husband Phil, will continue to carry her legacy forward. She leaves behind a tapestry of love woven through numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who she held dear, as well as a circle of cherished friends affectionately known as the "Irish Mafia," who provided unwavering support throughout her life's journey. As we celebrate Rinky’s life, we remember her not only for her contributions and accomplishments but for the love and joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, reminding us of the power of love, loyalty, and community. A memorial service will be held to honor Rinky’s life and legacy. Rest in peace, dear Rinky. Your spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know you!

Memorials in her honor can be sent to the Anaconda Food Bank and the Anaconda School District Backpack Program.

Visitation will start at 9:30 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church. The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Ceremony will start at 10:00 am. Services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Anaconda. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with a luncheon after at the Hunthausen Center, Holy Family.
