Robert Danny Hay

August 1, 1952 — April 25, 2026

Anaconda

Robert “Bob” “Bobcat” Danny Hay died April 25, 2026 due to complications following an accidental fall some three weeks prior. He was 73 years old.

Bob was born August 1, 1952 in Tarrant County (Fort Worth), Texas, the son of Robert Harold Hay and Eula Mae (Nowell) Hay.

Bob grew up on his father’s ranch. He joined the Marines when he was young enough that his father had to co-sign his enlistment papers, and he served in combat in Viet Nam, where he was wounded. When he came back home, he worked many years in law enforcement in Texas. He eventually moved to Montana and had a saddle making business for several years. When his eyesight failed, apparently due to agent orange exposure in Viet Nam, he lived in various places before settling in Anaconda where he lived for many years until his passing.

Bob consistently professed his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed going to church when his health would allow it. Bob liked to joke that, “I spell my name backwards from how other people spell it!” but he was “Bobcat” to many or most of his friends. Bobcat spent his days “listening to my pastors on tv,” listening to country music and just loving on his two beloved canine buddies and guide dogs, Yankee and Sarge.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and many of his veteran buddies. He is survived by his daughter, Charlene (Gary) Cochran, his son, Nathan Hay, 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and by his sister, Penne Ash, and his brother, John Hay.

Bobcat always loved our Montana mountains and has requested that his ashes be spread “on the mountain.”
