RIchard Edmond Rub

Richard “Rick” Edmund Rub, 76 years old, passed away on the afternoon of August 19, 2026, at the Hope Hospice Center in Missoula, Montana, after battling colon cancer for two years.

Rick was born in Billings, Montana, on November 2, 1949. He was the fourth child of Phillip William and Marion Irene Rub. He lived in Bridger, Montana, until age 6, when Rick’s family moved to Lost Creek, Anaconda, Montana. That is where he lived until he became ill and moved in with his niece, Tammy, and Craig Kostad.

The love of his life and soulmate was Joyce Peterman until her passing on July 31, 2018.

Rick attended Lincoln School through sixth grade and then went to the junior high. Rick quit school when he was 16 years old and went to work at the Mount Haggin Ranch for 15 years. Rick then started down in the Deer Lodge Valley working for different ranchers. The last one was Mel Beck before he retired.

Rick had one daughter who was his pride and joy, Amanda Nicole Freeman-Rub.

Rick is survived by his sister, Linda Tate, and brother-in-law, Tim Meehan; nieces and nephews, Craig and Tammy Kostad, Lilly Tate, Allen and Amy Tate, Martha Tate, Rebecca Meehan, Kathy and Chris Finigan; as well as great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his friends, Mr. and Mrs. Adams.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Marion Rub; his soulmate, Joyce; his brother, Phillip Rub II; his sisters, Margaret Nebeker and Mary Meehan; his brothers-in-law, John Tate and Alvin Nebeker; and his nephew, Phillip Nebeker.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no services, as Rick did not want any. When his ashes are returned, a date will be set for everyone to gather and spread his ashes.
