Patrick Francis Sullivan

June 4, 1939 — April 25, 2020

Patrick (Pat) Francis Sullivan, 80, was called home to the lord on April 25, 2020, after succumbing to ongoing health conditions. The 3rd of seven children, Pat was born, June 4, 1939, to Paul & Helen (Gallagher) Sullivan in Anaconda. "Goosetown" proud, Pat graduated from Anaconda High in 1957. He was an avid football & basketball player and demonstrated his hoop skills in the 1956 State Championship Basketball dual against Butte Central. He excelled in Track & Field and held an AHS track record in the 440 for many years. As a proud Bobcat fan, Pat attended Montana State College (MSU). From 1959 to 1963, he served in the Army, and was stationed with special clearance in Japan. In the 60's and 70's, he worked in the San Francisco Bay area, before returning to Anaconda. Pat worked for the Anaconda Company's Arbiter Plant as a pipe fitter, and among other jobs, tended bar at Carmel's, where he lent an ear to patrons. His years spent in Anaconda included caring for his mother, Helen, and his Aunt Kay Gallagher. He was also instrumental in helping his brother, Paul, with the construction of his home, and years later, aided in the care giving of Paul. Although modest and sometimes a man of few words, Pat was considered by family & friends, to be a walking encyclopedia of useful information. He remained diligent on the topics of current events, politics, history, sports, science and economics; and could most notably be witnessed listening to NPR radio, while reading an article in the Economist or National Geographic. Pat made many friends throughout his life, including those who remained loyal to him from school, the Anaconda Hearst Free Library and the Metcalf Center. In recent years, Pat enjoyed long walks, plus time on the golf course and softball field. He was always up for a game of charades with family, or the popular Sullivan/Gallagher tradition of sing-a-longs. He was famous for his mesmerizing alto infused versions of "Oklahoma" and "Danny Boy". Accompanied by musician Donny Vu, he also displayed his singing talents at the Metcalf Center during many St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Pat never missed a beat when it came time to attend his great nieces' and great nephew's music and sporting events, and he was most gracious on his visits to his brother and sister-in-law's house (Carmina and Paul) for Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays. A highlight for Pat was gathering with his brothers, sisters and cousins in the summertime, where his embracing, deep laugh could always be heard. The Sullivan & Gallagher families were most fortunate to help Pat celebrate his 80th birthday with Irish finesse last June. Pat was proceeded in death by his father, Paul Sullivan; mother, Helen (Gallagher) Sullivan; brothers Mike Sullivan and John Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Bill Hickman and Pat Delaney; along with many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Pat is survived by his siblings, Paul (Carmina) Sullivan, Margaret (Maggie) Hickman, Daniel Sullivan, and Marie Delaney; sisters-in-law Rita Sullivan and Joan Sullivan; nephews Mike (Karin) Sullivan, Brian (Kelly) Sullivan, Sean (Lisa) Sullivan, and godson/nephew, Patrick (Brea) Delaney; nieces Callie (Brad) Halvorson, Shannon (Joe) Lumbert, Carin (William Sanders) Sullivan, Colleen (Shawn Osborn) Sullivan, Paula (Dave) Nicholas, Maureen Delaney, Colleen (Bob) Garrant; plus many loving cousins, great nieces & great nephews. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Longfellow/Finnegan's Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony and a three-volley salute in honor of Pat, will be announced at a later date.
