The last of the Hayes girls has passed on. Patricia Regetta Hayes was born on January 17, 1924. She was the youngest daughter of James and Ellen Hayes, who were Irish emigrants. Patricia lived her entire life in Anaconda, Montana at 523 Chestnut. After graduating from Butte Business College, she began her working career. She wanted to take a job in Butte, but her mother said that was too far away, so she took a job at P.J. Greevey Insurance as the office manager. Pat followed that job with a position in the County Treasurer's office. Later she began a long career with the Anaconda Co. Her first assignment was in the Purchasing department and then as secretary in the Manager's office of the Butte Anaconda Pacific Railroad. As the Company changed, she spent a brief time as the office manager of the newly formed Shining Mountain Girl Scout Council. The Company changed again and she became the Legal secretary to the Company's attorneys in Butte. She later transferred to management as the Executive Secretary for the manager in Anaconda. As the Company changed again she served as the secretary in the Purchasing Safety and Health Dept. Pat was a member of the Daughters of the Isabella and the Legion of Mary.
After her life as a Professional Secretary ended, she spent her time giving care to her sisters. First Julia then Frances. Pat was a magnificent care giver at home, (good old 523). The one word that would describe Pat's care giving would be tenacious. She would not let her sisters suffer; she took care of them at home.
Pat's hobbies were knitting beautiful sweaters for family members and ceramics. Her favorite ceramics were the tall beer steins and the fighting bulls.
She is survived by her brother Fred (Evelyn) Hayes of Anaconda, nieces Frankie Kipp and Tracy Kipp, of Billings, Jo Ellen Duckett of Happy Valley OR, MaryLee (Everett) Payton of Pacific City OR and nephews Mike Hayes of Georgetown Lake, Tom (Kim) Hayes of Helena, J.R. (Amy) Hayes of Gilbert AZ. Jim (Lyn) Long of Midlothian VA.
