Nora D. (Kuburich) Oreskovich

March 28, 1924 — September 9, 2018

Nora D. Oreskovich, 94, passed away from natural causes at Anaconda Community Hospital on Sunday morning, September 9, 2018, with family at her side. She was a first generation American born on March 28, 1924, to Theodore L. Kuburich and Mary Radjen Boskovich. She attended local schools and graduated from AHS in 1942. She often did "volunteer work" at her father's gas station that was on the corner of East Park and Washington in Goosetown. She was the last surviving member of her six siblings and was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry Boskovich (Jean), Bill Boskovich (Eileen), Steve Kuburich (Ramona) and sisters, Rose Lepetic (Roy), Helen Kelly (Jim) and Lila Kuburich. Nora married the love of her life, Joe and built their home at 1815 West Park, from the ground up as a labor of love where they happily raised a family of four daughters and spent 52 years together before Joe's passing in 1995. Nora was a strong and vibrant woman and despite the deaths of her two eldest daughters, Mary Jo, former Superintendent of Anaconda Public Schools in 1994, and Rosalyn, former Deputy Administrator of Children and Family Services for the State of Washington in 2003, she found a way to carry on. Family meant everything to her - perhaps because she also had lost her own mother when she was only 14 years of age. Her maternal instincts developed at a young age as she helped take care of her younger brother, Steve, in his childhood and her father, "Timer," as he aged until his passing at the age of 94 as well. Nora was a wonderful wife and best mother in the world. She loved to cook and bake bread, sarma, povitica, and other Slavic and creative dishes for her family and anyone who visited. She had a lovely alto singing voice in high school and her church choir as a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Butte. She was also a member of the Mother's Club and the Circle of Serbian Sisters where she enjoyed working on Yugoslavian Night dinners and dancing the kolo with Joe and friends. She enjoyed traveling and attended several national Tamburitizan Festivals following her daughter Mary Jo's, Brdo Bacari Band. She visited relatives in Yugoslavia twice and spoke Serbo-Croatian, her parents' native language and respected ethnic heritage. At one point in her life she had a daughter living in each of the four time zones across the mainland U.S. and she and Joe would stay in Anaconda long enough to repack their suitcase before traveling again to see one of her gals. She also liked their junkets to Las Vegas or Reno or other "studios" that held her slot and keno machines. She loved life, having fun, arguing politics, and took tremendous pride in sending four daughters to college. She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Oreskovich, O.D. (Anaconda) and Joanne Oreskovich, PhD, (Helena) who will miss her dearly as their mother and enduring friend. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home on the corner of Commercial and Oak in Anaconda with Father Bratso of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in San Diego officiating. A one-hour visitation prior to the funeral service will be held starting at 10:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow in the family plot of the S.H. Sloga section of the Upper Hill Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Project Care, PO Box 1280, Anaconda, MT 59711 or a charity of the donor's choice.
