Mary L. Briggs

On September 1st, 2020 Mary Louise Briggs passed away at her home in Anaconda surrounded by her family. Mary was born Sept 13, 1925 in Boise Idaho to William Sr. and Louise Allen. The second of 6 children, she spent most of her childhood moving around the country. Some of her fondest memories were living in San Francisco where she started first grade. She finished High School in Idaho Falls, ID where she met the love of her life Heber "B" Briggs. They were Married by a chaplain at Camp Pendleton, CA, on Feb 17,1945. When Heber went over sea during the WWII. Mary joined her parents in Anaconda, to await the birth of her first child of ten. Heber joined her at the end of the war, and they decided to stay and build their home in Anaconda (a good place to raise a family). Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother. Mary supported and followed all her children's and grandchildren's activities closely and wanted them to get the best education they could. She loved the time she spent with her family and even thou she did not meet all her great and great-great grandchildren because they live all over the country. She enjoyed receiving pictures and hearing all about them, she loved them all and was proud of them, Mary was also very dedicated and giving person. Besides raising the family Mary was very active in the Catholic church, she helped establish and was in charge of Project Change for years. She also volunteered for Hospice, Thrift Center for a few years and other charities. She was an excellent cook, Mary could make a full course meal anywhere over a campfire, on a wood burning stove and of course in her own kitchen. Mary baked the best homemade breads and pies. She baked many cupcakes for school treats and other baked goods for bake sales. She Loved books and was an avid reader. Mary said read everything, learn all you can, be willing to change, keep an open mind and have faith in God. She enjoyed flowers, nature and traveling. In her later years as her health declined Peter Briggs, Kathy & Jerry Moses and Joe Briggs became her caregivers. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. Mary looked for good in everyone and everything. She is survived by her children Connie Soto of Brighton, CO, Joan (Ken) Ornelas of Chanute, KS. , Kathy (Jerry) Moses of Anaconda, Mary Rose (Allan) Tafelmeyer of Butte , Joe Briggs of Boise ID., , Linda Briggs of Rockhill, SC., David (Danetta) Briggs of OH/St, Petersburg, FL, Phyllis (Darryl) Anderson of Boise, ID, Peter Briggs of Anaconda and daughter-in-law Barbara Briggs of Wellton, AZ and 31 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 20 great-great grandchildren. Her brothers Chuck Allen WA and Don (Carol) Allen OR and sister-in-law Elizabeth Allen IN and brothers-in-law Doyle (Valorie} Briggs, ID and Glen Vlaanderen, UT and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Heber, her parents William and Louise Allen, son Larry Briggs, brothers Bill (Marion) Allen, Robert Allen and sister ZeeZee Collins, sister-in-law Phyllis Allen and grandson Jordan Briggs and granddaughter Laurelee Briggs. Father and Mother in- laws, Francisand Grace Briggs, Lucerne Briggs, Donna (Daniel) Scarborough, Alta Briggs, Lawana Vlaanderen. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
