Marvin Neil LaTray

September 3, 1960 — April 26, 2026

Anaconda

Marvin Neil LaTray, 65, of Anaconda, Montana, passed away suddenly at his home on April 26, 2026.

Born on September 3, 1960, Marvin was the fourth son of Alex and Rose LaTray. He was raised in several areas throughout Montana before his family settled in Anaconda, and more notably in Mill Creek, where the family homesteaded. Marvin spent much of his time surrounded by family, and he was known for his kindness, quirky sense of humor, and for being someone his loved ones could always depend on.

Marvin had a deep and abiding love for his family, especially his children, Christopher and Katie, who were his pride and joy. He often reminisced about them with anyone who would listen. He was also a devoted grandfather to his one and only grandson, Bryson, who meant the world to him. Marvin cherished his siblings and maintained close ties with many nieces and nephews.

His sister, Billie, fondly remembers Marvin for his love of the piano. He taught her how to play piano and chess and was always there for her, often calling exactly when she needed it most. Marvin had a strong interest in music and could often be found listening to Alice Cooper.

Marvin dedicated 28 years of service to the Montana Department of Corrections at Montana State Prison, working from October 16, 1989, until his retirement on December 7, 2017. He was proud to be the first in his family to graduate from college, earning a degree in criminal justice from Dawson Community College in Glendive.

Marvin shared a special bond with his mother, Rose, and his nephew, Nathan. His family takes comfort in imagining the joy he felt being reunited with them as he entered heaven’s gates.

Marvin is survived by his children, Christopher and Katie LaTray; his grandson, Bryson; his siblings, Cubby, Bob (Danette), Steve (Donna), Cheryl Erickson, and Billie Reich; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alex LaTray; his mother, Rose LaTray; and his nephew, Nathan.

A memorial service will be held for Marvin at 2:00 PM Friday, May 8th at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home, 107 Oak St in Anaconda, MT.
