Margaret "Peggy" Lee Hareland

May 13, 1940 — March 23, 2025

Anaconda, Montana

Margaret “Peggy” Lee Hareland, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister passed away the morning of March 23, 2025.

Peggy was born on May 13, 1940 to Jim and Mary Alice (Andreoli) Young in Anaconda, MT. She attended St Pauls elementary school and Anaconda Central High School. Growing up, Peggy was the eldest of four daughters. Her sisters all agree that she held the title strong of being the oldest and was “the boss”. While she was in high school, she worked at the local creamery where she met her future husband, Red Hareland. Rumor has it that Red locked Peggy in the walk in cooler at the creamery as a way to “flirt” with her; a tactic that proved to be successful.

Peggy and Red were married on September 10, 1960 in Anaconda, MT. They were inseparable and spent 63 amazing years happily married. They had two children, Greg and Nancy (Orrino). Peggy made the house a home and fulfilled a simple, traditional life. There was always a home cooked meal ready when Red got home from work. Her spaghetti sauce, roasts and jams were always a family favorite. Peggy was also a talented seamstress. She made her children’s halloween costumes every year, countless bridesmaid dresses for friends and family, and baby blankets for grandchildren.

As if she wasn't busy enough managing a household and chasing two kids (and Red), she held a full-time job as a clerk at Coast to Coast where she worked for over 30 years. Afterwards, she worked part-time at an embroidery shop. She was a part of all six of her grandchildren's lives and never missed a moment with them. From basketball and football games, to piano recitals and Boy Scout events, Peggy was always there and their biggest supporter. She would care for them after school and take them to Georgetown Lake for a weekend at the cabin.

Although she wasn't the outdoorsy type, Peggy loved the cabin. She spent warm summer mornings drinking coffee and playing cribbage with Red on the deck and winter days gathered with family around a campfire. Red would invite everyone he knew to their famous “fish fries” and Peggy always made sure everyone was fed and felt welcome.

Family and friends will miss Peggy’s kind heart and simple demeanor, but they find peace knowing she is with Red once again. She will forever be in our hearts.

Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Red Hareland; parents, Jim and Mary Alice Young; sister, Patricia McCarthy. She is survived by her two children, Greg (Liz) Hareland and Nancy (John) Orrino; six grandchildren, Keriann (Travis) Orrino, Brianna (Manny) Bernadino, Anthony (Kenna) Orrino, Alex (Alec) Skramstad, Nic (Sarah) Hareland, and Sean (Rylee) Hareland; seven great-grandchildren, Travis, Talon, Kole, McKenzie, Leighton, Remmi, and Lydia; and two sisters, Kitty (George) Martin and Jamie (Mark) Blaskovich; and numerous nieces and nephews that knew her as “Grandma Peg”.
