Marcy Jean Day

After a complicated illness, Marcy Jean Day passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 17, two days after her 75th birthday.

Marcy was born to Bennie and Lorraine Zimmerman on July 15, 1951 in McLaughlin, SD. The first of four siblings, Marcy and the Zimmerman family moved several times during her childhood before settling in Anaconda in 1958.

Marcy Graduated Anaconda High School in 1970. Following her graduation, she attended Butte Vo Tech and became an LPN in 1971. She worked at Community Hospital of Anaconda until 2008.

In her spare time following her nursing career, she became a paraprofessional for Anaconda Public Schools, retiring in 2017.

Marcy married her late husband Jack Day on March 10, 1971. The couple had two daughters, Lori and Jackie, and also provided a loving household to Amber and Autumn Domitrovich during their union. Jack passed away after a short illness in 2017.

Family came first with Marcy, being a fixture at gatherings, birthday parties, anniversaries and holiday celebrations. She loved being closely connected with her growing family. She enjoyed doing a variety of different crafts and always had projects until her hands no longer allowed her artistic nature to shine.

Jack and Marcy spent many summers travelling to random destinations with their daughters, seeing family near and far, camping and making memories. Marcy loved her girls, grandchildren and the rest of her family very much.

Marcy enjoyed taking spontaneous car rides with anyone who wanted to go. Some of her happiest times later in life following the passing of Jack were with her grandson Michael, where he would pop up, grab his grandmother and document their travels on social media. Posts and pictures at random diners, movies and historic places were extremely special to her, bringing her childhood and lifelong travels full circle thanks to her selfless grandson.

She didn’t particularly care much for racing but enjoyed watching NASCAR with her son-in-law Shannon. Their bond continued into her final days as he provided immeasurable care during the trying times, never leaving her side.

Christmas was some her favorite times because the house was filled with family and love. Fourth of July was extremely meaningful as well, loving her time at Blake and Melissa’s home for food and fireworks. She even got to wear her brand-new t-shirt this year and she vowed not to miss the party. Marcy also made sure not to miss any of Cameron’s plays and performances, seeing the hard work of so many come together to produce plays for the community.

And who can forget probably the most loyal family member of all, her dog Chappy. He comforted her until her final hours, never leaving her side and making sure a surely growl accompanied any who came close to her.

Marcy enjoyed going to church every Sunday and was an active member of the Hope Lutheran Church Council. She was always a fixture at many church activities. Marcy was also a board member at the Metcalf Senior Center.

Marcy was proceeded in death by her parents, Bennie and Lorraine; husband, Jack; sister Renee Holbrook; brother, Lon Zimmerman; mother and father-in-law, Albert and Mary Manego; brother-in-law, Ted Day, and his wife, Dorris; and sister-in-law Kathy Maylvac.

She is survived by daughters, Lori (Shannon) Hoskins, and Jackie Hicks; grandchildren Ashley (Matt) Stulhsatz, Gary Gabriel, Ashlee Marsenich, Ali, Michael, Austin and Kylie Hicks; greatgrandchildren Darrell Orchowski, David, Jaxson and Alvera Elliott, Michael Stulhsatz and Kobee Gabriel; brother, Glen (Nelda) Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Dottie Zimmerman, Alice Tranmer and Dorris Johnson; brothers-in-law, Jim Monego and Joe (Cheryl) Monego; special nieces, Debbie Stokan, JoLynn (Mike) Huotte, Tana (Bill) Everett (Peyton and Gracey Klanecky), Melissa (Blake) Hempstead (Trevin, Justine and Cameron); special friend, Teryl Rouse; and numerous other loved ones.

Services for Marcy will be on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. Hope Lutheran Church in Washoe Park. Coffee and snacks will follow.
