Manfred "Fred" Walter Kreitlow

Manfred (Fred) Walter Kreitlow, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2015 in Missoula at 80. Fred was born March 22, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI to Walter and Frieda Kreitlow. At 6 months old he visited Germany to see the birthplace of his maternal grandmother. While in Germany he contracted measles and was forced to stay with his grandmother in Tuttlingen, Germany for the next 15 years. His grandmother returned him to the United States when World War II broke out to keep him from being recruited by the Nazis. After school he attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. He later joined the Air Force where he served for 8 years before being honorably discharged. He worked for the ACM Company in Great Falls for 2 years before managing service stations in California and Las Vegas. In 1971 he returned to Montana and worked for Met Life until medical retirement in 1974. In retirement he enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, coffee with his friends, traveling to sports events with his grandson and time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Fred met Darlene Martz at the Grand Coulee Dam and they were married in Couer d'Alene, ID on July 19, 1955. Fred and Darlene had two children, Terry and Jay. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 47 years before Darlene's passing. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife Darlene and her siblings. He is survived by his son Jay (Jackie) of Chandler, AZ and his daughter, Terry (Mike) Arvish of Anaconda, grandchildren; Chris (Jen) Arvish of Missoula and Nicole (Jason) Jackman of Anaconda, along with 2 great grandchildren; Kylie and Liam and several nieces and nephews, including Dana Beardslee. He is also survived by brother-in-law Arlie Beardslee and his lifelong friends; Vic and Yvonne Romano and very good friends; Wade and Nancy Dahood, Bob Daniels and Dave Coady. As Fred wished, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 9th at 11:00 am at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home chapel. There will be a private interment of ashes at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Pintler Pets, P.O. Box 1204, Anaconda, MT 59711.
