Louis "Lou" A. Norton

April 19, 1945 — May 28, 2019

Louis "Lou" Norton died on May 28, 2019 in Missoula, Montana. Lou was born in New London, Connecticut on April 19, 1945, to Louis Sr. and Kate Norton. Lou was raised in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda High School. After his graduation in 1963, Lou joined the U.S. Navy and served as an Aviation Electrician's Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class. On April 11, 1965, Lou married Gail Steadham, his soul mate and the love of his life. One look was all it took to know he would spend his life with Gail. They spent 53 years together and raised one son together. Upon his return to Butte, Lou went to work for the Anaconda Company and later worked for the Montana Power Company and PPL until his retirement in 2009. Throughout the years, Lou enjoyed everything Big Sky Country had to offer. The outdoors were his passion. He loved fishing, hunting, archery, scuba diving, hang-gliding, back packing, prospecting and riding all-terrain vehicles with his buddies Paul & Darlene Battaiola; Gary & Mary Fuller; Mike & Mary Ann Kerns; Dick Phillips; Bill Hammond and Noal Sanders. Flying his plane was a passion he loved doing ever since leaving the U.S. Navy. He would fly whenever he got the chance and flew for the Civil Air Patrol. When he wasn't fishing, hunting or flying his plane he was working on the family cabin at Georgetown Lake. He was a talented builder and loved working with his hands. Lou is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gail Norton; son Jim (Mary Jo) Norton of Butte; his grandchildren Brianna, Katlyn, and McKenzie Norton all of Butte; and numerous cousins and relatives. Lou was proceeded in death by his parents Louis Sr. and Kate Norton, and his grandparents Bethel and Herbert Norton. Services will be held Tuesday, June 4th at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Chapel at 10:30. His family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 that morning. Followed by a 11:30 graveside service at New Hill Cemetery in Anaconda, Montana. Following graveside services there will be a celebration of Lou's life at the Haufbrau. The family requests memorials in Lou's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital; Spirit of Columbia Gardens or a charity of the donor's choice.
