Leroy Russell Hanson

June 19, 1940 — June 13, 2018

LeRoy Russell Hanson was born on June 19, 1940 to Edward and Jennie (Behrens) Hanson in Henning, Minnesota and he passed away on June 13, 2018 in Anaconda, Montana. His family moved to Montana in 1946 and he attended Anaconda Senior High School in Anaconda, Montana. He earned his GED while in the Montana Army National Guard. He married Francis Krizan on October 2, 1960 and they were blessed with five children. After 29 years together, she preceded him in death. He married Mary Ann Ford on October 5, 1991 and she brought three children into the marriage. LeRoy worked at Anaconda Smelter, Anaconda Foundry, Intermountain Bus Lines, Solans Garage, and at the Montana State Prison. LeRoy was also active in the community, volunteering with the Anaconda Search and Rescue and the Anaconda Ambulance. He was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. He served with the Montana Army National Guard, retiring after 27 years as a Staff Sergeant. LeRoy was an avid outdoorsman and hunted, fished, and loved to gather firewood, often dragging his children along, much to their combined delight and chagrin. He also enjoyed racing cars. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Francis, infant son, Frank, brother Laverne Hanson, and one infant great-grandson. He is survived by two sisters, Ruth Blom and Barbara (Robert Shaw), brother Stanley (Pat), wife, Mary Ann, four children, Billy (Cheryl), Tina (Greg Hruska), Terri, Gary (Diane), three stepchildren, Laurie Ann (Dave Stropes), Mike Ford, Dan (Mary Pat), 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday June 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service at the church.
