Lawrence W. "Larry" Riley, beloved husband and love of Mary Ann (Frankovich) Riley's life for 61 years, passed away peacefully at his home on April 16, 2014.
Larry was born on August 28, 1926 in Anaconda, Montana to Thomas and Maggie Riley who were born in Ireland. He was the youngest of seven children. He attended St. Peter's Catholic School and later attended Butte Business College. He began work on the smelter as a crane operator and was very active in the union for many years. He served as a business agent and financial secretary and was instrumental in The Anaconda Steelworkers and Smelterman's Day Celebration. Larry was a man of great accomplishments. His work ethic served him well in work as well as in life.
Mary Ann and Larry married in 1952 and started their adventure together. They raised four beautiful children (Larry, Mike, Mary Pat, and Linda) that he truly adored. He had a unique and special bond with each of his children and grandchildren. Larry took great pride in their accomplishments and took the time as a father and grandfather to teach his family strong values, morals, and lessons. His zest for life and people was contagious. Larry loved nothing more than family, friends, and good food. He touched the hearts and minds of many people and he will forever live on in that way. He was always so gentle and wise. He approached everything with a positive attitude and taught his family to treat people well.
Larry loved to travel and went to eleven countries, including two trips to Ireland, where he connected past and present but most importantly he took his family on yearly vacations where he taught them the importance of learning about other people and places. "Take the trip" he would say. He enjoyed time with his family and made it his priority. He enjoyed playing pool and visiting with his friends, of which he had many. He lived life on his terms. The wisdom he shared will live on through those left behind. He will be sorely missed and remembered fondly by many.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Maggie Riley; beloved daughter, Linda Kortum; brothers, Bernard, Walter, Gene, and Jim and sisters, Frances and Helen.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his children, Larry (Colleen) Riley, Mike (Sheryle) Riley, and Mary Pat Nicholes (Detlef Johl); his grandchildren, Jolynn (Brian) Corr, Tricia (Vince) Vasquez, Maggie Kortum, Katy Riley, and Britni Riley; great grandchildren, Austin Corr, Trever Corr, Hanna Corr, Mackenzie Corr, and Michael Kortum; as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in- law and nieces and nephews.
