Lawrence Edward Fickler passed away peacefully at The Springs in Butte, Montana on April 28, 2026.
Lawrence was born on January 19,1936 to Emerson and Edna (Bowls) Fickler in Missoula Montana. He was raised in Drummond, Montana. At the age of five he contracted polio and spent nearly a year at Shodair Hospital in Helena. He always felt very fortunate that he made a full recovery. After graduation from Drummond High School in 1955 he enrolled at Montana State University. He earned his way through college by working construction and graduated from MSU with a degree in Industrial Arts and Business in 1961.
On June 11,1960 Lawrence married Frankie Morse in Deer Lodge, Montana. The newlyweds lived in Bozeman while Lawrence finished his degree and after returned to Drummond. Lawrence and his brother Kenny managed Fickler Motors together while their dad recovered from an illness. Lawrence and Frankie chose to stay and raise a family and venture into business by forming Fickler Oil Company. A business that started with a bulk fuel truck in Drummond, then expanded to Deer Lodge, Butte and Billings. He appreciated his work and those he felt fortunate to work with.
Lawrence was very community minded and enjoyed supporting and participating in local events and organizations throughout the years; Kiwanis, Drummond Volunteer Fire Department, Drummond City Council, Granite County Planning Board, the Flint Creek Valley/Granite Mountain Bank Board, and the Montana Petroleum Marketers Association Board. Through his involvement he formed valued, life-long relationships.
Lawrence had many interests over the years. In his youth he played basketball and baseball and hunted and fished with family and friends. As a young man, in the early days of snowmobile racing, he and his friends raced at tracks in Montana, and spent time in the back country snowmobiling with their families. Later in life he enjoyed following the activities of his kids and grandkids and spent many hours in his shop creating furniture.
In September of 2020 Lawrence and Frankie moved to The Springs of Butte. He appreciated the music and activities and made new friends with residents and staff members.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his wife Frankie, parents Emerson and Edna Fickler, brother Kenneth Fickler, father and mother in-law Nevin and Evelyn Morse, brother and sister in-law James and Mimi Morse.
