Kenneth "Chuck" Mitchell Sr.
August 14, 1942 to July 31, 2016
The good lord called Chuck home after a short battle with cancer. Chuck passed away peacefully on July 31, 2016 in the early morning at the Deer Lodge Nursing Home.
Kenneth "Chuck" Mitchell Sr. was born on August 14, 1942 to Harold & Pearl Mitchell in Butte, MT. Chuck loved the game of baseball, baseball was his favorite thing to do growing up as a kid in The Smelter City. He got his nickname "Chuck" from being an excellent pitcher and that he was. His children have fond memories of being told stories of their dad's baseball career from men that had played against him. They especially enjoyed hearing "Boy your dad was one hell of a pitcher". He always looked forward to the Goosetown softball tournament where he would go and sit for hours and watch softball or he would attend little league games and legion baseball games just to be near the game. In addition to baseball Chuck loved to bowl and he excelled at it. He had many 300 games and played with many great people including Mike Murphy, Marvin VanMeel, Skip Meyers and Dave McLean. As a team they were at the top of their game and had a great time doing what they loved to do.
Chuck loved cars, he had all kinds of cars from a 55 Chevy, 57 Chevy, Pontiac GTO and many others. He always wanted to buy a corvette and get on the highway and put the pedal to the floor and see what it would do. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and loved animals especially dogs.
Chuck held various small jobs as a kid growing up from delivering newspapers to working in his father's ice cream parlor The Arctic. He entered into the draft and was drafted into the US Army April 2, 1964 during the Vietnam War and went through basic training and earned high decorations for marksmanship with the M-14 rifle. He was honorably discharged from the US Army on April 1, 1970 and returned home to Anaconda where he went to work for the Montana Power Company where he was a wireman and lineman for several years. He left Montana Power Company and went to work at the Montana State Prison in Deer Lodge where he retired after 25 years of service.
Upon being discharged from the US Army in 1970, he met Sandy (Harvey) Wilson and they married shortly after. They moved out West of Anaconda in the Yankee Flats area and built a home where they had (2) sons Ken Mitchell Jr. & Harold (Hammy) Mitchell. Chuck loved going to baseball and football games that his sons participated in and was always the first one to cheer them on and be their biggest fan.
Chuck is survived by his sons Ken Mitchell Jr. (Anaconda) Hammy Mitchell & his wife Holly (Anaconda) his grandkids Samantha & Dustyn of Las Vegas, NV and Troy & Ashley Mitchell of Anaconda. He is preceded in death by his father Harold Mitchell and his mother Pearl Mitchell.
