Kenneth Herbert Hunze

July 22, 1924 — August 12, 2018

Kenneth Herbert Hunze was born on July 22, 1924 in Hawarden Iowa to Louise (Arndt) and Vernon H. Hunze, the fourth of their five children. He grew up in southwestern Minnesota and graduated from Westbrook (MN) High School. He served the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate on the USS Putnam during WWII and was in the Pacific theatre and was part of the barricade in the Japanese harbor during the signing of the peace treaty ending the war with Japan. After a whirlwind courtship, he married Marjorie Doreen Walter on December 10, 1947 in Jasper, MN and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where he worked as sales rep for X-ray equipment. While there, their first child, Sandra, was born. From there they moved to South Dakota where he worked in various cities and towns as an X-ray technician. Two more children, Kenneth and Dixie, were born. In 1959 the family moved to Winona, Minnesota where he supervised the x-ray department at the Winona hospital. After retirement in 1986 Herb and Doreen (as they were known) moved to Howard, South Dakota to care for Doreen's mother. In 1989 they moved to Haugan, MT to be near daughter Dixie and her family. After a few years they moved to Superior, MT and finally to Anaconda to be near Sandi and Gary. After Doreen's death in 2010 he remained in the home and enjoyed cooking for himself and doing his own household chores. Herb had a strong faith in his Lord Jesus Christ and faithfully read his Bible. He talked daily to his wife (Old Red) and missed her very much. He is survived by his three children: Sandra (Gary) Wenger, Kenneth (Nancy) Hunze, Dixie Allen, nine grandchildren: Jon (Tarah) Wenger, Emily (Jeremy) Winter, Thomas (Ashley) Wenger; Celia (Brian) Schneck, Jeremy (Jennifer) Hunze, Kristin Gamer; Elizabeth Allen, Christopher Allen; step-granddaughter Charlotte (Shawn) McKernan, and eighteen greatgrandchildren. There will be a private family burial at a later date. Memorials may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1321 W. 5th St., Anaconda, MT 59711 or Metcalf Senior Center, 115 E. Pennsylvania, Anaconda, MT 59711.
