Kathleen "Kay" Heaney

July 2, 1942 — December 25, 2022

Missoula

Kathleen (Kay) Marie Heaney left this world on Christmas morning, her favorite holiday, to be with her son Michael and her many loved ones waiting in Heaven.  Kay was born to Kathleen (Enie) and Irvin (Pete) Peterson on July 02, 1942, and was raised during the good old days in Anaconda, Montana.  She was the oldest of four children, and proudly received her Catholic education, graduating from Anaconda Central in 1960.

Shortly after high school, Kay met the love of her life and the talk of Birch Street, Marty Heaney.  Kay and Marty married on November 03, 1962. The young couple soon started their family together, and before they knew it, they had a clan of six kids. Kay was an advocate for social justice, a cheerleader for those who needed encouragement, and the very definition of unconditional love. She was proud of her family, her friends, and anyone who ever got knocked down by life and came up swinging. Kay worked for many years at the Anaconda Catholic Community, sharing that ministry with her lifelong friend, Carole Kovacich where they positively touched the lives of so many.

Kay loved sports of all kinds and attended games near and far with Marty by her side. They were happy just being together whether it was pee-wee baseball or March Madness. To the dismay of her children, Kay cheered on the Griz for many seasons from the North end zone. She also rooted for the Fighting Irish, Seattle Mariners, and Gonzaga.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Enie and Pete Peterson, brothers Jimmy and Eddie, mother and father-in-law Madeline and Martin Heaney, brother-in-law Tommy Heaney, Uncle Edward Gallagher, and her beloved son Michael Heaney.

Kay is survived by her husband of 60 years, Marty Heaney, sister Patsy Martin (Pete), sons Marty (Joanne), Pat, and Danny Joe (Melissa), daughters Katie (Mike), Colleen (Bill), grandchildren Leah, Lacey (Colin), Cade, Drew, Jade, Hattie, and Charlie Bird, her parakeet.  Additional survivors include Mick Heaney (Alice), Mary Heaney and special Aunt, Helen Gallagher.

Kay’s love of people and life was sincere and full of joy, and she found peace through her faith. Kay leaves behind many life-long friends and extended family members who will miss her greatly.
