Katherine Ina "Kay" Petrovich, 82, of Stevensville, Montana, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, August 8, 2015.
Born on January 21, 1933, in Joplin, Montana, her parents Clarence and Helena McCann raised her on the family farm. Kay graduated from Joplin High School in 1951 and attended Northern Montana College and Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing. While in college, her classmates elected her Freshman Class President and chose her to represent NMC and meet President Truman.
After earning her RN degree, she married Alfred Petrovich on July 24, 1954, and settled in Anaconda where they raised eight children. Kay nursed for many years at St. Ann's Hospital and, later, at Galen State Hospital where she became the night supervisor.
In addition to devoting herself to her family and patients, Kay volunteered for many years at the Anaconda Food Bank. Her hobbies included playing the accordion and piano, traveling, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. All who knew Kay loved her and will remember her for her tremendous sense of humor, incredible generosity, and kind spirit.
Kay was preceded in death by: husband, Alfred Petrovich; father, Clarence Leo "Shorty" McCann; mother, Helena Kroeker McCann; and infant brother, Clarence Eugene McCann.
Surviving daughters include: Diane and husband, Mike Mickelson; Peggy Knibbs; Sherry and husband, Fred Staedler; Janice and husband, Jim Ouldhouse; and Connie Petrovich. Surviving sons include: Alfred Jr. and wife, Angie; Michael and wife, Michele; and Daniel and wife, Brenda. Other surviving relatives include: brother, Steve McCann and wife, Marie; and sister, Arlene Heydon and husband, Earl. Surviving grandchildren include: Jory, Jamie, Ryan, Eric, Stephanie, Christopher, Maria, Nathan, Rebecca, Christina, Sandra, Joseph, Stephen, Bradley, John, Lisa, Danielle, Kenny, Noah, and Dillon. Kay had eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Anaconda, on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow graveside services at Holy Family Catholic Church in the Parish Hall.
