In Loving Memory of Joseph Eugene Ashley Jr.

April 22, 1971 – March 6th, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joe, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. He departed from this world on March 6 in his home, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.

Joe was born on April 22, 1971, in Columbia, SC., where he grew up surrounded by family and friends. He was the son of the late Joseph Eugene Ashley and the late Susie Haltiwanger Ashley.

He is survived by his wife Shannon Heimark Ashley, his daughter Sydney Ashley DeWalt (Tim), of Fair Oaks, CA, Stepson, Daniel Alley of Philipsburg, MT, his sister, Summer Ashley Holmes (Will), nephews, Judson and Ben Holmes of Columbia, SC. Beloved Aunts, uncles, cousin and many dear friends.

Joe spent the 13 last years with his best friend of 30 years, his wife and soulmate Shannon Heimark- Ashley, with whom he shared a deep love for animals, music, traveling to concerts and years of memories.  His little Buddy stepson, Daniel Alley, together they enjoyed sports, movies, especially Star Wars and talks about History.  Also, his furry little friends, his cats. His pride and joy was his beautiful daughter Sydney DeWalt and two of the happiest, proudest moments of his life were watching Sydney graduate nursing school and walking her down the aisle to marry a great man, Tim DeWalt.  Joe was a loving husband and father.

Beyond his immediate family, Joe was a cherished friend to many. He touched the lives of all who had the privilege of truly knowing him.

He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Summer Hawltiwanger, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Roy Ashley, and many dear friends.

Joe's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the countless lives he has touched. Though he may no longer walk beside us, his legacy of love, knowledge and compassion will live on in our hearts.

In honoring Joe's memory, let us find solace in the moments we shared and the impact he had on our lives. May his gentle soul find eternal peace, knowing that he was deeply loved and will be forever remembered.

Services will be held 2pm May 11th at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia, SC., with a gathering to follow.

Rest In Peace Joe, my love, you will be forever missed, but I will carry you with me for the rest of my years and your spirit will live on in Sydney.
