John "Jack" Patrick Doran

February 21, 1920 — April 13, 2015

John (Jack) Patrick Doran, 95, of Anaconda, Montana passed away peacefully on April 13, 2015 in Scottsdale Arizona. Jack was born in Anaconda on February 21, 1920 to Joseph and Helen (LaCourse) Doran. He attended school in Anaconda and began work at a young age selling newspapers on the streets of Anaconda for a nickel and peddling his bike around town delivering telegrams. As a young man he went to work for the ACM on Smelter Hill from 1939 until 1941 when he enlisted in the Army and was inducted October 15, 1941 at Fort Lewis, Washington. A member of "Americas Greatest Generation," he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After his discharge from the service in 1945 he returned to Anaconda and the smelter where he worked in many different departments including being a carpenter and later a machinist's helper until his retirement in February 1980. Jack married Lorraine Jones on June 10, 1948 and they remained together for 65 years until her passing in July of 2013. He was a lifetime member of the Anaconda Catholic Community and served on the Funeral Luncheon Committee for many years. He was also active in the Carpenters Union, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. A diehard New York Yankees fan, Jack kept himself busy on the Anaconda social circuit making the rounds for the morning coffee sessions with the guys at Thompsons and McDonalds. He was also a regular at Fairmont Hot Springs; swimming several times a week until declining health forced him to stop. He was a wonderful, generous man who always did everything he could for his family and friends. Grandpa Jack would always have a pocket full of quarters that he would hand out to the grandkids and their friends when they were little and as they got older, those quarters became dollar bills. He developed many great friendships over the years and the family would like to thank everyone who continued to stay in touch with him after he had to leave Anaconda. It meant the world to him to know he had such good friends. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Survivors include his brother Richard (Nancy) Doran; son Gary (Susan) Doran; daughter Debbie Doran; grandchildren Denise (Mark) Eisenman, Kevin (Alyse) Doran, Nick (Kara) Vahe and Kristina Vahe; great-grandchildren Ryan and Ethan Eisenman, Tyra Kucinski and Cadence Doran; and nephew Ricky Doran. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen Doran, wife Lorraine Doran, brother Joseph Doran and nephew Joey Doran. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday May 30, 2015 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Anaconda. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the services at the church.Interment will be at Lower Hill Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Holy Family Church.
