Joan Arlene Maes

Joan Maes, 81, of Anaconda, passed away with her family around her on Friday, July 17, 2015 at her residence. Joan was born in Butte on July 02, 1934 to Earl and Mary (Lawrence) Roberts. She attended Butte schools and graduated from Butte High School in 1952. She married Leo Maes in 1957 and they moved to Anaconda. Joan started working for her Uncle Joe Roberts at Roberts Rocky Mountain Equipment; she then went to work for Ford Motor Company. From there she started working at St. Anne's Hospital and transitioned over to Community Hospital of Anaconda where she remained until her retirement in 1999. Joan enjoyed gardening, skiing, golfing and going out to get firewood. She was also the secretary of the Hospital Foundation, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and a member of the Anaconda Catholic Community. Joan is survived by her daughter Marianne (Dan) Wood, of Anaconda, her son Mike (Joyce) Maes, of Anaconda, her brother Tom Roberts, of Mill Valley, CA, three grandchildren, Kasey Maes, Christina Zarr and Kayla (Ben) McKinley and five great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leo, her brother Jack Roberts and her sister-in-law Marge Roberts, and her brothers and sisters-in-law Alice and Paul Maes, Eleanor and Bob Daly and Bob and Bobbie Carey. Visitation will be held at Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Vigil starting at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service.
