Jean Marie Thomson, 86, passed peacefully from this life in her Dillon home on March 24th, surrounded by family. Ultimately, she succumbed to a lengthy and dignified battle with cancer.
Jean was born January 30, 1931 in Anaconda, the fourth of five children to Dewey and Antoinette (Barkovich) Todorovich. She graduated from Anaconda Senior High School (class of 1949) and completed Butte Business College. She married Gene "Shaker" Thomson, also of Anaconda. Their 56-year union produced three children, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Jean worked for the Anaconda Company for several years and was Shaker's right hand during his three terms as Deer Lodge County Sheriff.
Jean was an accomplished bowler and relished her Wednesday night ladies' league at Cedar Park Lanes. She enjoyed crocheting, collectibles, gardening (especially planting and growing flowers) playing pinochle-most often with a wad of "Abe Lincolns" at risk--and spending time with family. Jean provided 12 years of in-home care for her declining mother, highlighting an uncommon and extraordinary sense of family. Her generous philanthropy benefited a variety of youth programs-the southwest Montana YMCA, American Legion baseball, Make a Wish Montana, Beaverhead County High School activities, as well as diverse agricultural and faith-based developmental groups.
Jean is survived by her husband, Gene "Shaker" Thomson; son Steve (Dianna) of Canyon Lake, TX and twin daughters Jan Thomson-Rouse (Todd) of Dillon and Ann Komac (Matt) of Helena. She is also survived by grandchildren Joni, Keith (Monica), Matthew (Ashley), Alyssa, Alex and Paige; and great-grandchildren Nicki, David, Samuel, Thomas, and Addie. She is also survived by sister-in-law Mildred Todorovich and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents Dewey and Antoinette Todorovich; brothers, Robert-US Army, killed in action, WW II, a source of great pride and reverence to Jean--George, Tom and sister Helen Blodnick (Edward), all of Anaconda.
Celebration of Life Services commence at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 8 at St. Peter's Church in Anaconda with Father Dougald McCallum officiating.
