Jay Dee Schultz

April 9, 1962 — May 11, 2016

Jay Dee Schultz April 9, 1962 - May 11, 2016 Jay Dee Schultz, 54, passed away May 11, 2016 at Maxville, MT. A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 26, at the Peace Church in New Salem, ND. Jay was born April 9, 1962 and adopted at birth by Lorraine and Willard Schultz, New Salem. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Church, rural New Salem, and attended New Salem schools. Jay worked for Bob Bateman and the Cross Ranch for a time, then did seismograph work from North Dakota to Arizona. He also did mechanic work in Mandan and for Glen Hoovestol. He worked in the North Dakota oil fields during the 1980s oil boom. Around 1990 he moved to western Montana where he met Sue and they married and were later divorced. While living in Montana he did more mechanic work and then got into the logging business. He bought logging equipment and part interest in a post and pole yard. He sold that and later went into logging by himself and bought his own logging claims until the government no longer sold claims until the government no longer sold claims to individual people. Jay then used some of his equipment for digging basements, cesspools, etc. He developed bladder cancer in 2015. After a round of chemotherapy and surgery was performed he was given a clean bill of health in February 2016, but he was already dealing with headaches and dizziness. On April 24, 2016 cancer was discovered in his brain, which led to his death. Jay remained alert and communicative until the end. Jay's advice to anyone who develops cancer was to make sure doctors do thorough checks in case the cancer has spread to the brain. Jay is survived by his mother, Donna Hoger, of New Salem; stepmother Lorraine Schwinkendorf, New Salem; three brothers, Dale Hoger, Jeff Schultz and Jim Schultz, nephews Ethan and Wyatt, in addition to other nieces and nephews.
