Janice H. Palakovich

Janice Palakovich passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017 at home, surrounded by family. She was 84. She was born February 9, 1933 in Anaconda Montana to Harold and Helen (Ness) Higgins. She graduated from Anaconda High School in 1950. After graduation, she worked at the Anaconda telephone office before moving to Minneapolis, MN where she attended flight school. She returned to Anaconda in 1952 and resumed working at the telephone office. On June 1, 1957, she married John Palakovich, and the two shared many happy years together raising their two children, Julie and Jim. The four of them were affectionately known to friends and family as the "Four J's". In 1972, she began working at Montana Power, where she worked until retiring in 1996. Janice enjoyed world travel, and visited many countries with her mother Helen and aunt Alice Grove. She was also an amazing pianist and organist. She played her first church service at the Lutheran church in Anaconda when she was 12 years old, and continued to play for church services and accompany various choirs for both the Lutheran and Catholic churches throughout her life. Janice also enjoyed her yearly trips to Alaska with John, where the two spent the summers fishing for salmon and halibut, and digging for clams. Her greatest joy in life was her family and close friends. Janice was very kind, generous, and loving. She will be deeply missed by everyone that had the opportunity to know her. Janice is survived by husband of 60 years, John, daughter, Julie, son, James (Sandy), two granddaughters Sarah (Thomas) and Ellie, and her ‘adopted' family Anne Marie Allen and Gene, Pam, Greg, Gina, and Yvonne Wilhelm. She is preceded in death by her brother, James, and parents, Harold and Helen. Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church on Monday, October 2, 2017, beginning with the Rosary at 9:15 a.m., Visitation at 9:30 a.m. and the Celebration of Life at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Anaconda Pintler Hospice, 118 E. 7th St., Ste. 1A, Anaconda, MT 59711 or breast cancer research.
