Jane Ann (Yost) Hanson

November 20, 1942 — December 3, 2019

On December 3, 2019 Jane Ann (Yost) Hanson surrounded by her children, became an angel due to her oversized heart. Jane was born November 20, 1942 in Faribault, Minnesota to Ernest and Marjorie (Brock) Yost. She grew up in St. Paul, MN with many fond memories, such as ice-skating adventures with her father and many visits to the Brock family farm in Newton, Iowa. Following in her mother's footsteps, she found her calling with a degree in elementary education and started her teaching career in Hastings, MN. This is where she met and married John Hanson and gained the loving and extended family she longed for as an only child. The couple moved to Montana where Jane taught school in Manhattan and then finished off her 40-year career in Whitehall. Jane's proudest accomplishment and life's passion was being a mother and grandmother to her three children and six grandchildren. Sacrifice was a word she never used, but something she did every day to ensure that her kids and grandkids knew they were always supported and loved. She enjoyed all adventures and loved any time spent on, near, or around a lake and enjoyed her Georgetown Lake cabin and friends. She shared this adventure recently with her close friend and lifelong "sister" Carole Cogdill, where they squealed like teenagers riding too fast around the lake, enjoying life, and looking at bald eagles. Jane was also a one-time State Champion Bowler on the circuit with her close friend Elaine Wilkinson, she averaged in the low 90s with the exception of a state tourney where she bowled the game of her life and took home the title. Jane was preceded in death by both of her parents, Aunt Bonnie Seney, Uncles Regan, Worthing, and Bill Brock from Iowa, Sister-in-Law Jane Ann Hanson (Hastings Jane), Mother-in-Law Irene Hanson-Flanagan, and Father-in-Law Joe Flanagan from Minnesota. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren Matt Hanson - Alex and Victoria (Whitehall, MT), Dan and Lindy Hanson - Ryan and Brady (Butte, MT), Liz and Chuck Tuss - Aubrey and Kaylee (Anaconda, MT). Brother-in-Law Bob Hanson, Sister-in-Law Jane Ann Hanson (Bloomington Jane), Nieces Sarah Sorenson, Nell Sauer, and Niece/Goddaughter Jill Hanson. As well as many extended family members in Minnesota and Iowa. A celebration of Jane's amazing life will be held at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Whitehall, MT on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with family visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m., and a luncheon to follow in the church social center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Whitehall Community Library 110 1st St. W. Whitehall, MT 59759 to honor Jane's love of learning and reading.
