Ivan "Ike" F. Whittlesey

April 18, 1951 — March 20, 2019

Ivan 'Ike' Whittlesey passed away Wednesday, March 20th at his home in Philipsburg, Montana after battling a long fight with cancer. Ike was born April 18, 1951 to Eugene and Elsie Whittlesey of Damascus, Oregon, the youngest of 3 children. He spent his childhood working on the family farm. After graduating from Gresham High School, he made his living excavating. He was contracted with Northwest Natural Gas for years, where he met many lifelong friends. His passions included fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and dancing. If George Strait came on, you could bet he would start looking for a dance partner! He also loved playing practical jokes (especially on his brother Roger!) He loved making friends and family laugh. His door was always open for any and all who wanted to enter. He would be quick with a smile and was a master story teller. He was incredibly generous and helped anyone who needed him, without hesitation. He moved to Philipsburg, Montana in 2005, where he built a house overlooking the Flint Creek Valley, where he passed peacefully, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Janiece Whittlesey of Philipsburg, Montana; his son, Trevor Whittlesey of Missoula, Montana, his daughter, Trina Lee (husband Jeff) of Hillsboro, Oregon, Brother Roger Whittlesey (wife Jeanie) of Damascus, Oregon, sister Susan Burch of Portland, Oregon, ss well as, many nieces and 12 grand nieces and nephews. An open house will be held on April 14th, from 10am-2pm at Ike And Janiece's house, 102 Deer Lane. Celebration of life will be held in Portland, Oregon later in April.
