Harold James LaTray, age 90, gained his wings February 21, 2024, in Deer Lodge. He was born at Fort Belknap, Montana, on October 4, 1933, to William and Jenny Gardipee LaTray.
Harold joined the US Army at the age of 21 and received his honorable discharge in 1957. Harold was an underground miner for Cominco American until his retirement in 1993.
Harold enjoyed anything to do with sports including coaching his own kids on a softball team and taking his dogs Dino and trapper on rides. Harold’s family was his life.
Harold was a proud member of the American Legion and rendered honors at over 200 funerals – he was your infamous bugle player.
Harold and Pat were married on September 15, 1956, and of this 47 year union had seven children: Sheila, Lila, Sandy, Harold (Butch), Dale, Jimmy, and Jennifer.
Harold is survived by his wife Shirley, daughters; Sheila (Larry) Zachary, Lila Roberts, Jennifer LaTray, sons; Harold “Butch”, Dale (Debbie) and Jimmy.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Pat, daughter Sandy, son-in-law Donald, daughter-in-law Wanda, great-grandson Dalton Conat, grandson Derek and all 12 of his siblings.
Services for Harold, privately organized by the family, will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, 127 Sam Beck Road, Deer Lodge, MT. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the graveside services at the First Baptist Church.
