Retired Anaconda teacher passed away peacefully this morning (October 14, 2019)!!! The dear Lord is welcoming her into His kingdom. May she rest in peace!
She was born September 26, 1933, in Choteau to Michael and Brigid Walsh, who were Irish emigrants from Count Mayo, Ireland. She was raised on a Ranch/Farm and her early schooling was in Fairfield, where she graduated from Fairfield High School in 1951. She received her bachelor's degree from the College of Great Falls in Business Education in 1955. Evelyn taught business subjects in Granite County High School, Philipsburg 1955-1960. She taught several years in the Anaconda Adult Education program. In 1977 she went back to college and earned her elementary certification for elementary education and then taught several years in the Anaconda's Elementary School System.
Evelyn married Fred Hayes, her best friend and love of her life in 1957. They had three talented sons, of which she was so proud. Each one graduated from a college and amounted to something. Yep, mighty proud! Also, proud to have five wonderful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
I never really did anything spectacular in my life, but I enjoyed my teaching career. Working with the youth was actually fun. I worked for AARP figuring taxes for many years. I really liked volunteering, because I could meet new people and help them with their taxes. Also, I enjoyed working the ACC funeral luncheons.
I was a member of the Anaconda Catholic Community, Anaconda Retired Educators, Anaconda Elks, and the FUN Lunch bunch.
Too-da-loo!
TO REMEMBER ME
At a certain moment a doctor will determine that my brain has ceased to function and that, for all intents and purposes, my life has stopped.
When that happens, do not attempt to instill artificial life into my body by the use of a machine. And don't call this my "deathbed." Call it my "bed of life," and let my body be taken from it to help others lead fuller lives.
Give my sight to a man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a woman. Give my heart to a person whose own heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain. Well, not my Heart, because it has been beating to the wrong rhythm lately. Give my blood (A Positive) to the teen-ager who has been pulled from the wreckage of his car, so that he might live to see his grandchildren play. Give my kidneys to one who depends on a machine to exist from week to week.
Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body, and find a way to make a crippled child walk. Explore every corner of my brain. Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that someday a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her windows.
I know I'm over 80 years old, but maybe something of this old "Irish gal" can help someone.
Cremate what is left of me and place me in the Hayes plot at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Anaconda. (Evelyn Walsh Hayes)
May God Bless all my family and you all enjoy life to the fullest!!
