Edward Stupca

June 30, 1935 — June 12, 2014

Edward LeRoy Stupca was born in Anaconda, Montana on June 30, 1935, the son of Edward and Helen (Walsh) Stupca. His Class of 1953 was the first to graduate from Anaconda Central; he studied at Carroll College and the Theological College of the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Helena on May 27, 1961. Following his ordination, Father Stupca was assigned to the Faculty at Carroll College. After eight years at Carroll, he was assigned to St. Patrick Parish in Butte and then to St. Joseph Parish in Butte. In 1979, he became the Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Dillon and moved to St. Anthony Parish in Missoula in1981, where he served for ten years. In 1991, he was assigned to the Madison County Catholic Community (the Parishes in Sheridan, Laurin and Ennis), where he served as Pastor until accepting Senior Status in 2006. As Senior Status priest, he resided in Butte. When in Sheridan, Fr. Ed was so popular he served the people regardless of their denomination. "the priesthood is a wonderful way of life," said Father Stupca on the occasion on his fiftieth anniversary of ordination. "People share their lives with you in ordinary times, in sad times and happy times. You really get to know people and love them. That's the main thing about priesthood-serving people on the name of the Lord." Father's Ed parents preceded him in death. Fr. Stupca is survived by his uncle Gene and aunt Peggy Walsh, aunt Dorothy Walsh, and numerous cousins. Fr. Edward Stupca, 78, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Copper Ridge Nursing Home in Butte. The visitation hours will be on Wednesday at beginning at 5:00 p.m. with the Funeral Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.
