Dorothy Louise Walsh

December 12, 1917 — April 20, 2015

Dorothy L. Walsh, 97, passed away April 20, 2015, at home with her family by her side. Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend of many in the Anaconda community. She was born December 12, 1917, in Binford, North Dakota, one of seven children to John and Agnes Jacobs. Dorothy followed her sisters Cecelia and Marie to Montana after graduating from high school. She was employed at a hardware store and the Five & Dime in Anaconda. On October 11, 1941, she married John Walsh. When asked how she met her husband, she would say with a twinkle in her eye "he asked me to dance". Together they had five children and were married for 56 years when her husband died in 1997. Dorothy was very athletic and enjoyed both playing and watching a variety of sports. She liked bicycle riding in the summer and ice skating in the winter. She stayed active well into her later years; in the winter she would walk in the Daily gym everyday with her friends Alice and Patti. Weather permitting, they would often walk to McDonald's for breakfast. Dorothy was an avid bowler and bowled in a weekly senior league at the Copper Bowl Lanes. For her, bowling was more about the quality time with her fellow bowlers and not so much about the score. Dorothy also took pleasure in watching sports on TV, especially tennis. She could name most of the professional players and knew what country they were from. In fact, she had a tennis ball autographed by Rafael Nadal given to her by her grandson John! She also watched the Denver Broncos, the NY Yankees and any sport involving Notre Dame. She was a big fan of Catholic College basketball and knew all about the coaches. Dorothy loved to play cards, playing often at the Senior Citizen Center, as well as playing Gin Rummy with her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was also a member of the Garden Club and the Red Hat Society and an accomplished seamstress. She will long be remembered for her warm hospitality and her awesome homemade donuts and cookies, especially by her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all of her family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John; son Danny; brothers Sylvester (Jake), Lawrence, Bernard; and sisters Cecelia, Marie, and Margaret. She is survived by her sons Tony, Pat (Ann Marie), Jim (Debi) and daughter Nancy (Tim) Johnson; brother and sister-in-law Gene and Peggy Walsh and sister-in-law Marie Walsh; grandchildren Shannon, Mike (Janet), Greg (Betsy), John, Kevin, Keith (Danielle) and Adam (Pam); great grandchildren Kate, Jack, Gabriel, Darin, Dawson, Drake, Kaden and Ashton. Dorothy was a remarkable woman of strong faith and few words, who lived a great life. Her greatest legacy is her family, who will miss her dearly. On Tuesday, April 28, there will be a family visitation at 9:30 am and funeral Mass at 10:30 am, followed by a luncheon at Holy Family Church in Anaconda. Memorials may be sent to Anaconda Pintler Hospice, 118 East 7th Street, Suite 1A, Anaconda, Montana 59711. The family would like to thank Dorothy's caregivers, Margie, Deborah, Stephanie, Linda, and Marilynn. She so appreciated their friendship and compassion. The family is also very grateful for the kind and gentle care given by the staff from Anaconda Pintler Hospice.
