Dorothy B. Smith was called home by our heavenly Father on October 1, 2019 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Pat Connors.
She was born on December 4, 1931 to Jack C. and Kathryn B. (Lowery) Kelley in Garrison, MT. she attended schools in Deer Lodge, MT and graduated from Butte Business College with honors.
She married Leonard B. Smith on January 26, 1949. They built their home in the West Valley and had one daughter, Joy, in 1950.
Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for Marvin Funston and Young Motors Co., later called Tony Quick Inc.
Dorothy and Leonard did everything together. Both loved to fish, camp, snowmobile, ride 4-wheelers, garden, horseback ride and spend time with family and their many friends. Dorothy was known to say, "Leonard caught the most fish, but I caught the biggest." They traveled to Alaska and Hawaii with their best friends. Dorothy's CB handle was "Sawbuck", given to her by Leonard, whose CB handle was "Crosscut". He would call her on his CB radio from the boat to tell her to get dinner ready, and she would. Their two grandsons, Chris and Patrick, loved to go with them in their motorhome on fishing trips. Eventually, their great grandchildren were also included in these outings.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Jack (Betty) and Ray (Lois), sisters Gen (Wesley) and Gracie, parents-in law George and Beatrice Smith, brothers-in-law Earl (Afton) and Glen, sisters-in-law Shirley (Mike) and Dorothy (Foots), nieces Linda K., Sharon, Sandy, Judy and Linda M., and nephew Jim.
Survivors include her daughter Joy, son-in-law Pat, grandsons Chris (Lisa) and Patrick, great grandchildren McKayla, McKenzie and Nate, nephews Ron (Nancy), Bill, Jack, Dan (Debby), Raymond, Mike (Lisa), Brent, John (RaeLynn) and Craig, nieces Betty, Sue, Allyne, Joni, Julie and Joan and brother-in-law Bruce Little.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Holy Family Catholic Church, Anaconda. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the services at the church.
