Dorothy E. Austin, age 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Community Hospital of Anaconda. She was born on April 3, 1933 in Anaconda to Arthur and Techla Kanthack and was the second youngest of nine children (all of who preceded her in death). She was a 1951 graduate of Central High School and a 1954 graduate of Columbus School of Nursing as a RN. She married Charles Patrick Austin on November 24, 1956 at St. Paul's Church in Anaconda.
Dorothy's had a long and fulfilling career at the Anaconda Community Hospital starting as a registered nurse then working her way up to being the head nurse for the surgical unit and retiring in 1998. Not satisfied with retirement, she went back to work at the Community Nursing Home of Anaconda for several years. She spent time volunteering at the Hearst Free Library, supporting numerous charities, and helped out at Art in the Park for many years.
She had a passion for supporting her children and grandchildren's sporting events, golfing, solving crossword puzzles, bowling, following the final four, cheering on her favorite football teams, and sharing her last years with her beloved dog Zowie. It was discovered that she had a little entrepreneurial spirit when she went into business with her younger brother, John, in 1956 & 57 when they opened the D and J Fountain and Lunch on 118 Main Street in Anaconda. She gave her all in raising her family; demonstrating a hard work ethic, honesty, and charity. Dorothy was loved by many and will always have a special place in the hearts of those whose life she has touched.
She is survived by her five children, 12 grandchildren; Mary Lindgren and Dave Lindgren (Britany, David), Mike and Bobbi Austin (Dan, Hayley), Mark and Laura Austin (Courtney, Kelsey), Dan Austin and Barbie Austin (Rachel, Garrett), and Ed and Terri Austin (Samuel, Sydnee, Sienna, Sadee); five great-grandchildren (Lorelai, Taven, Liam, Alaska, Lucas) and many nieces, nephews, cousins.
Per Dorothy's wishes, a private family memorial will take place at a later date.
