Darrell Dale Zacher passed away at home on June 24, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
Darrell was born on June 19, 1935, to Arthur and Lydia (Zimmerman) Zacher on the farm near McLaughlin, South Dakota.
At the age of 18, he enrolled at Hansen’s Mechanical Trade School at Fargo, N.D. In 1956 he took employment at the Anaconda Co. Smelter. In 1958 he was drafted into the US Army, he served 2 years in Germany, upon returning to McLaughlin, he worked for Schweigert Chevrolet until 1961, when he moved to Mobridge, South Dakota and worked for Glador Bros. In 1965 he returned to Anaconda and worked for Dee Motors. In 1966 he took employment at the Butte Berkley Pit, as a truck mechanic and radio dispatcher until the pit finally shut down operations in 1982. Darrell worked his remaining years at the State Hospital at Warm Springs until eventually retiring in 1997.
On July 7, 1957, Darrell married Delores Schulz of McLaughlin, SD at First Lutheran Church in Anaconda.
In retirement Darrell and Delores spent their winter months living as “snowbirds” in Apache Junction, AZ., until COVID brought them back to Montana permanently. Darrell was a self-taught Clock Repairman, specializing in Grandfather and Cuckoo clocks. He was a collector of miniature classic cars and was an avid Garage Sale enthusiast.
Darrell is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores, son’s; Max (Nilda) Zacher of Billings, and Wade of Anaconda, daughter; Dee Ann Scanniello of Gilbert, AZ., grandchildren; Nicholas (Britney) Zacher of Billings, Christopher (Seanna) Zacher of Anaconda, and Apollo Scanniello of Gilbert, AZ., great-grandchildren; Boyd & Madelyn Zacher, and Brothers; Donald (Susan) Zacher of Hamilton, and Walter Zacher of Hot Springs, SD.
Services to be held at the Hope Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 26, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that charitable donations are made to Pintlar Hospice in honor of Darrell’s memory.
