Daniel F. (Danny) Walsh, 63 passed away December 14, 2013 in Anaconda. Born on January 16, 1950 to John and Dorothy (Jacobs) Walsh, he was one of five children. Danny graduated from Anaconda Central High School in 1968 where he excelled in sports. He played basketball, football, and ran track. Although he played only 2 years of football, he was selected all conference tight-end his senior year. His passion for the game continued through those Green Bay Packers. Everyone knew Dan's love for the team. He also enjoyed snow skiing. On one of life's greater journeys, Dan traveled with friends to conquer the slopes in Europe. He played a mean game of table tennis and knew his way around a pool table.
Dan graduated from the University of Montana in 1972 with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. He worked for the FBI until 1974 when he went into sales for Mutual of Omaha. On June 10, 1978, he married Judy Hulse. They made their home in Billings, MT until December of '89 when they moved to Las Vegas, and Dan began work at Conoco Oil. He worked there several years before settling at Angel Park golf course in 1992. The job complemented his love and skill for the game. Dan later retired to where he truly belonged, the mountains of Montana. He enjoyed hiking especially in Zion's National Park. If not on a hike, Dan was an avid walker who would trek for miles and miles with most unable to keep up!
Dan was dealt a few bad cards in life, but he persevered. He severely burned his hands while working for Conoco and spent months in a burn unit; he successfully battled throat cancer as well as issues that brought him to the nursing home in Anaconda. Dan being Dan, he played those cards with a smile on his face. A man of few words, his goodwill and heart of gold touched many throughout his life. He was an awesome brother, son, and uncle.
Dan is survived by his mother Dorothy, brothers Tony, Pat (Ann Marie), Jim (Debi) and sister Nancy (Tim) Johnson. He also left behind nephews Mike (Janet), Greg (Betsy), John, Kevin (Missy), Keith (Danielle), Adam (Pam) and niece Shannon Walsh. He was preceded in death by his father John.
There will be a funeral mass January 6, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Anaconda at 10:30 am with a luncheon to follow. Memorials may be sent to the Community Hospital and Nursing Home of Anaconda Foundation at 401 W. Pennsylvania Ave. Anaconda, MT. 59711.
