Daniel "Dan" Hintz

November 23, 1922 — January 23, 2017

Daniel passed away January 23, 2017 in a Butte nursing home. He was born on November 30, 1922 to Karolina (Renke) Hintz and Fred Hintz in New Leipzig, North Dakota. January 24, 1945, he enlisted in the Army serving nine months in Japan. On November 23, 1945, he re-enlisted in the Air Force serving two years as an M.P. While in Germany, he met and married Erika Emma (Kutschka) Hintz. From this marriage, they had five sons. They later divorced. Dan returned to farming in North Dakota after his service time. In 1956 the family moved to Anaconda where he worked on the smelter. He went ironworking in the early 60's until his retirement. Dan was preceded in death by his wife Patresa Helen (Riley) Hintz, his parents Carolina and Fred Hintz, sisters Ida Holton, Edna Doolan, Selma Sweet and Louise Eisenbarth, and brothers Alex, Gottfried, Henry, Sam, Fred and Reinhold. Dan is survived by his sister Erma Fogerty of Grenada, Mississippi, his sons Larry (Linda) of Missoula and their children Jason, Brandon, Kristal, and five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Roger (Kathy) of Anaconda and their children Michael and Kyle and five grandchildren. Danny (Vickie) of Anaconda and their children Sandy and Dustin and seven grandchildren. Harvey of Anaconda. Terry (Bonnie) of Missoula and their children TJ and Shane and five grandchildren. Services will be held at Mount Haggin Baptist Church in the West Valley on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow. Burial will take place in New Leipzig, ND and will be announced at a later date.
