Charlotte E. (Betty Barclay) O'Donnell passed away peacefully at Elkhorn Healthcare in Clancy, Montana Friday, May 17 at the age of 97. She was born in Lewistown, Montana on June 23, 1921, the second daughter to parents Charles J. and Helen "Nellie" M. (Lewis) Barclay.
Betty, sister Helen and young brother Charley lost their mother at a young age. They were nurtured with the loving assistance of Sally Shields in her Lewistown home through their adolescent years. Betty graduated Fergus County High School in 1939 where she was a member of the Girls Athletic Association and enjoyed Glee Club and dance. She attended business college and worked for the First National Bank of Lewistown and the Production Credit Association.
Betty married John T. O'Donnell in Lewistown on June 8, 1943, while he was home on leave from the Army. Following war's end, and John's graduation from Montana School of Mines, they located in Anaconda to build a home and raise their family of four boys in the West Valley. Betty and John celebrated 65 years together before his passing in 2008.
Betty's commitments were the loving care of raising her family and her faith. Devotion to her Lord Jesus Christ was evidenced through her study in the Scriptures, her leadership and work as a church deacon, Sunday school teacher, member of the United Presbyterian Women's Association and P.E.O., a young woman's educational organization.
Betty was preceded in death by husband John T. Sr.; her parents and step-mother Rosella Barclay; special angel "Grandma" Shields; son Dennis O'Donnell; and sister Helen Barclay Cervenka.
Betty is survived by her children and grandchildren, son John T. Jr. (Tawna Meldrum) O'Donnell, granddaughter Melissa O'Donnell Marchion (Russ); son Charles H. (Cindy) O'Donnell, grandsons Austin, Tyson, Sam and Mark O'Donnell; son Richard K. (Ute) O'Donnell; grandsons Ryan and Patrick O'Donnell; 5 great-grand-children; brother Charles (Joyce) Barclay Jr., and numerous much-loved nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
Our family is grateful for the gentle care given to Mother ("Miss Betty Blue Eyes") by the Elkhorn Healthcare and Compassus Hospice staff.
