Cecilia Thormahlen

February 4, 1920 — June 5, 2016

Cecilia Holzer Thormahlen was born Feb. 4, 1920 and peacefully took God's hands on June 5, 2016. She was the daughter of Valentine and Genieve Holzer, raised on a farm in Strasburg, N.D. Her work ethic and resourcefulness were from there also. On Nov. 13, 1940 Cecil married Walter Thormahlen. They started a large family in Bridger, MT. before relocating to Anaconda in 1952 where Walter worked for the Smelter. Walter died of cancer at the age of 50 on Oct. 1, 1952. The large, young family of six boys and two girls were now Cecil's to raise alone. Cecil worked at the St. Ann's Hospital in housekeeping. She raised her family in the Mount Haggin Homes, cooked from scratch, baked everything, hauled laundry and nurtured her family. Cecil lived independently there until 95 years young. She was always strong, stood tall, never drove a car, had her hair styled weekly and never missed Mass. Her strong faith carried her through life. Cecil loved and enjoyed her family with passion. When the 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren came along, no one was ever happier or prouder than Cecil. She took pride in attending and participating in all of the kids' activities and special events in their lives. She traveled to North Dakota yearly to check up on her siblings - Mom was the oldest of 12. She loved to bowl and play cards. With little education no one could have taught her family more. Grandma T walked the walk . This blessed lady will be missed so very much by sons Jerry and Donnell Thormahlen, Ken and Ginny Thormahlen, Don and Joyce Thormahlen, Dave Thormahlen, Rick Thormahlen and Marilyn, daughters Judy and Jim Maloughney and Gene and Linda Cofer; 17 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren who know Cecil as Grandma T. Also surviving are brother John and Millie Holzer along with sister Mary Ann Deichert, Ann Bosworth and Emma Holzer; sisters-in-law Helen Holzer and Shirley Thormahlen and brother-in-law George Thormahlen. She is also survived by very special nieces and nephews from around the country. She loved you all. Thank you Mom, Grandma T, Great-Grandma T for all of your strength, support and most of all your love. We will think of you every day with smiles on our faces knowing you are with Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa and all of your loved ones gone before you. God be with you Mom, until we meet again.
