MEREDITH, Elizabeth Jean "Betty" (Age 90)
Betty Meredith, a lifelong resident of Anaconda, Montana was born on June 6, 1927 and passed away on October 14, 2017. She will be greatly missed by her many friends in the Anaconda community as well as her numerous family members.
Betty graduated from Anaconda High School in 1945, where she was editor of the school yearbook and newspaper and was very active in many school activities. Soon after graduation from high school, like many of her generation, she married at a young age. She and Robert Leroy "Bob" Meredith filled their home over the years with five active and healthy children. Attending the numerous activities their children were involved in, both Betty and Bob seldom missed a sporting activity. Betty loved to play bridge, and with Bob, was active in the local and state square dancing scene. Betty was a lifelong member of the Anaconda Catholic community, past president of the Anaconda Garden Club, was a 4-H leader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, painting, and crocheting. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and loved collecting and receiving gifts from Ireland. Overall, Betty's greatest joy was spending time in the company of her family and friends.
Betty spent most of her working years as a receptionist in Dr. Callan's office. She relished working in this environment, meeting and helping local residents when they came into the doctor's office. Upon Dr. Callan's retirement, Betty worked for a short time at Warm Springs state hospital.
Grandma Betty, as she began to be called, played a large role in instilling a strong work ethic and value system in her children. Not able to attend college herself, she encouraged and supported all five of her children to earn college degrees at various universities. This interest in education continues today as all ten of her grandchildren have also earned degrees of which she was extremely proud.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 1980 and her parents James and Julia Fitzpatrick. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Bob and Sue Meredith (Anaconda), Jim and Karan Meredith (Spokane, WA), Brenda and Randy Dorrington (Kalispell, MT), Dave and Cathy Meredith (Kalispell, MT), Carolyn and Wayne Boese (Spokane, WA). Betty was proud of her ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
The Meredith family wishes to thank the staff at the Nursing Home of Anaconda for their care, love and patience they gave our mother.
