Betty Lewis Ambo

Betty Mae Johnston was born in Shields, Kansas on April 4, 1925, to Walter and Virginia Johnston.  She spent her early years on the family wheat farm until they moved to Montana in 1939, due to the Dust Bowl.

On September 14, 1942, Betty married Frank Lewis in Bozeman, MT.  They had several businesses in the Gallatin Valley. Then in 1955, the family moved to Rudyard, MT where Frank was the Superintendent of Schools. Then in in later years, he was the Superintendent of Schools in Baker, MT, Deer Lodge, MT and Reed Point, MT.  After retiring, Betty and Frank moved to Deer Lodge Valley.  Frank Lewis died in 1998.

Betty latter married Victor Ambo in 2003. He died in 2009.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Leo) Nicholes of Anaconda, MT and Linda Shandy of Butte, MT; grandchildren Jolanda (Tim) Wessel of Lincoln, MT; Beth Parks of Butte, MT; Chandra Nicholes of Anaconda, MT; Heather (Mike) Gasper of Mansfield, TX; Becky (Chris) Sorg of Swisher, IA; Justin Nicholes of Anaconda, MT; and Heath (Ruth) Shandy of Shreveport, LA; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In-Laws Leland (Diana) Lewis of Las Vegas, NV and Darlene Gillette of Raymond, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Frank and Victor; her son, Gary Allen Lewis who died in 1949, her parents, and her brothers and sister in-laws, Donald (Joan) Johnston and Dean (Darlene) Johnston.

Funeral Services will be held at the Longfellow Finnegan Riddle Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021.  Visitation will begin at noon to 1:45 p.m.  Burial will be held at New Hill Cemetery in the Veteran Section.
