Arlie Elwood Schulz

April 25, 1937 — June 5, 2014

Arlie Elwood Schulz passed away peacefully at his Anaconda home at the age of 77. He was born April 25, 1937, in New Leipzig, ND where he graduated high school, leading the band before he graduated. Where the family has been told he was a local basketball star. He continued his education at Rocky Mountain College and Eastern Montana College in Billings where he completed his Bachelor degree in music and teaching. Arlie was the band and choir director in Dutton, Montana for five years, a band and choir director in Whitehall, MT for two years and the band director in Anaconda MT for thirty years before retiring. He also taught private music lessons for a number of years and directed the Butte Community Band for five years. On June 11, 1978 he married the love of his life, Mary Emily (Browne, McGuire) Schulz in Anaconda. They enjoyed thirty-six years of marriage and raised two daughters, Robin and Sandi. Arlie thoroughly enjoyed music throughout his life whether it was teaching his many students, serving as the Director for the Anaconda Adult Education Choral Society, serving as the Vice President of Anaconda Live!, directing and/or participating in various community bands and choirs, as well as attending concerts and musicals. Arlie was very active in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE). Locally he served as the Exalted Ruler three times, and also served as a Trustee. On the state level he served as the State President for one and a half years and also served as the First Vice President, Second Vice President and as a Trustee. On the national level he served as the Assistant Deputy for one year. Arlie also enjoyed golfing with his friends and family, hunting near his cabin in Ovando, MT, as well as long walks and drives in the Montana countryside. Arlie is survived by his wife Emily Schulz of Anaconda, daughters; Robin (Lyle) Happel of Bozeman, MT, Kathy Lynch, and Sandi (Scott) Randles of Florence MT, and beloved grandson Cody Randles of Florence MT. Memorial services will be held on at 11am, Monday, June 9th at the Hope Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Board of Directors. Burial will follow at the MT Olivet Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Anaconda High School Band or a memorial of the donor's choice.
